Solvang, CA

Solvang (Danish for "sunny field") California is a beautiful little town with Danish inspired architecture and some really delicious bread. It is located in Santa Inez Valley in California. The thing about Solvang is that even though it is a very small town, there is a lot of things to see. Since we did not have a lot of time and were just passing through, we did not get to see and do all the things it offers, however, we did get bread and looked at all the little shops around downtown.

I like going to towns like this because I always feel a great deal of curiosity about them. I can't help but wonder, why? What is the point of designing something to model after a culture so distant? Well, I never find out the answer, and I never really understand exactly why. I do know one thing though. Something that I have learned over the years. It is important for towns like this to stay alive because no matter how distant, and how different the cultures are, these towns give us a glimpse into life and into what the lives lived by people on the other side of the Atlantic were like.

It's a little of what they saw everyday and what they believed to be right. I think this town is very beautiful and exceptional. It holds the beauty of the Santa Inez mountains as well as the charm of a Danish community. I hope that Solvang stay around for a long time because without it and in a modernizing world, how can we simply walk into the past, and the past lives of people who believed in this style of beauty?

Something along the lines of "Prince Charming?"

Where have you been all my life?

Hey,

I know, I know, what happened to Trengie? Did they get lost in a desert? Not yet. But we have been buried in an avalanche of books, models (architecture models, not the kind you're thinking of), and trying to be social beings while getting exceptional grades. But enough of that, it's time to get back in track. Up next, you won't believe the adventures we have been through from Ice Skating in Yosemite, to getting attacked by an insane bird. I hope you guys are ready because Trengie is splitting up to conquer the extremes of the America's. Trenton is making his way to New York City in August to learn one or two things about being an architect, and of course to try New York pizza, New York cheesecake, and New York pretzels (his words not mine) and I will be leaving the States, embarking on a quest to find out more about my native tongue (Spanish) as well as some Tango in the multicultural city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Stay tuned, and follow us to learn a thing or two about being awesome.

Go blog something,
Trengie
